This scenic, tropical nation has been rediscovered
by travelers in recent years; more people than
ever are marveling at Vietnamese treasures such

species-rich rainforests. , Vietnam is a strip
of land shaped like the letter āSā. China
borders it to the north, Laos and Cambodia to
the west, the East Sea to the east and the Pacific

Vietnam is a verdant tapestry
of soaring mountains, fertile deltas, primeval
forests inhabited by exotic fauna, sinuous rivers,
mysterious caves, otherworldly rock formations,
and heavenly waterfalls and beaches. Beyond nature,
the curious and open-minded visitor will find
in Vietnam a feast of culture and history.
The country can be thought of as comprising three unique areas: north, central, and south. The north is known for its alpine peaks, the Red River Delta, the plains of Cao Bang and Vinh Yen, enchanting Halong Bay, and historic Hanoi, as well as for the diversity of its ethnolinguistic minorities.
Population of Vietnam is about 80plus million
people in Vietnam. Eighty percent of these are
ethnic Vietnamese, while the remaining twenty
percent comprises more than fifty separate ethnic
groups. About seven million of these ethnic
minorities are members of the hill tribes or
montagnards (French for mountain people), making
their homes and livelihoods in the spectacular
mountains of the north and central highlands.
Among the many languages spoken in Vietnam are
Vietnamese, Chinese, English, French, and Russian.
Climate
Vietnam is located in both a tropical and a
temperate zone. It is characterized by strong
monsoon influences, but has a considerable amount
of sun, a high rate of rainfall, and high humidity.
Regions located near the tropics and in the
mountainous regions are endowed with a temperate
climate.
Travellers should take the
Tet Festival (late January or early February)
into account when planning a trip. Travel becomes
very difficult, hotels are full and many services
close down for at least a week and possibly a
lot longer.
Getting There
Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat Airport is Vietnam's
busiest international air hub, followed by Hanoi's
Noi Bai Airpot. A few international flights
also serve Danang. Bangkok has emerged as the
principle embarkation point for Vietnam but
it's still possible to get direct flights from
a number of major Asian,European cities and
a few Australian cities.
Hanoi is located in the Red River Delta, in
the center of North Vietnam, It's slow-paced
yet quick to charm, with a lovely landscape
of lakes, shaded boulevards, verdant public
parks and French-colonial architecture.
Hanoi is situated in a tropical monsoon zone with
two main seasons. During the dry season, which
lasts from October to April, it is cold and there
is very little rainfall, except from January to
March, when the weather is still cold but there
is some light rain. The wet season, from May to
September, is hot with heavy rains and storms.
Hanoi also characteristically contains 18 beautiful
lakes such as Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, and
Truc Bach Lake..., which are the lungs of the
city, with their surrounding gardens and trees
providing a vital source of energy.
Many traditional handicrafts are also practiced
in Hanoi including bronze molding, silver carving,
lacquer, and embroidery. Hanoi has many famous
traditional professional handicraft villages
such as Bat Trang pottery village, Ngu Xa bronze
casting village, Yen Thai glossy silk...
Hanoi's enchanting Old Quarter is rich with
over 1000 years of history. Surface from its
thronged labyrinth to explore the city's tranquil
lakes and pagodas, its historical houses, and
strange preponderance of turtle imagery. The
